The Importance of Printing

Posted on April 9, 2020 by Ruth Ellen Photography under Equine Photography

I have said this many times and I will continue to do so. Printing your images is important!

I did a poll recently on Facebook and 44% of the people who took part, hardly ever print their images!

Back in the day of film photography, because you had to pay for a film and pay to get it developed, photos were precious. You were excited to get them back from the lab and because they weren’t so easy to come by, you treasured them just that little bit more.

Taking photos now, has never been easier using our phones, but ironically it feels, that because we can do it all the time (I’m sure we take more photos now, than ever before), they have lost their value. We take images now to share on social media and to get likes, rather than for own personal pleasure.

But have you ever stopped and realised the beauty and importance of taking photos?

Photos capture your precious memories. They remind you of your life, how you felt, the people and animals in your life, helping make your memories that bit clearer. This is what makes your life special, this is what your precious memories are really about and what you really want to be reminded of.

So why print?

When important images (the ones capturing key moments and the ones that were taken for more than just a social media post) remain in a digital format, they are easily forgotten. They get lost in a sea of far too many other trivial images that were flippantly taken just because it was possible.

Not only that, how will your digital images be past on to future generations i.e your children? Will future generations even know they exist and where to find them? Will they be accessible? Are they being kept on a secure cloud based server that no one has the password for? Will access be granted (issues such as this have gone through court in recent years)?

Don’t forget, children will want these images for their future too. How much pleasure have you got from looking at old family photos and how many wonderful memories does it bring back?

How often do you come across a USB, turn on a computer and look through the hundreds and thousands of images that you or someone else has taken over the years? Now think, how many times, have you come across an album or box of photos and had a look through?

Photo’s are about quality, not quantity. They must be easy to locate and view, and they must be past on to the people whose memories will be brought back to life from looking at the images.

Yes, keep a digital back up, but print those important memories and key moments and share with the people who it matters most.

This is why as an Equine Photographer I include a printed product with my Equine Photography sessions. I want to eliminate the risk of an image sat on your computer and forgotten about because you just never quite got round to getting it printed. I also want to take the additional work involved away from you and ensure that the images are printed to the best quality and delivered direct to you, ready to be enjoyed on a daily basis.

And don’t forget, not all printing labs print to the same quality. Try a few and see which prints best.
